FAQ For International Guests

What kind of social distancing precautions we would all be taking (especially from Sam's family) or whether you think those precautions are necessary, and what sort of transportation makes the most sense to get from/to the airport, and any day trips that are convenient and might make sense.

Where do we fly into?
Windhoek, Namibia (WDH) - The airport is around 25 miles from the city.

Which airlines should I fly with, and which route should I take?
Due to the variants, we currently don’t recommend flying through Delta to Johannesburg, South Africa (JNB). However, of course, if that is comfortable and most within your budget, you do you.

Two other airlines are United/Lufthansa that go through Frankfurt, Germany (FRA), and Ethiopian Airways which flies through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (ADD).

Buy through the airline instead of a third party, such as Expedia, Google flights, and the Hopper app. Because this is an expense flight, buying directly through the airline allows for easier changes, if needed. (Feel free to still use third party sites as research tools to compare prices and see what options are out there).

Do we need visas?
No, you do not need to do anything ahead of time; you will get a free stamp upon entry. but there are a couple travel stipulations:

Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure out of Namibia.

To be save, have 5 empty pages in your passport book.

How will we get around?
Once we know numbers, Sam’s family will try to source transportation, as much as possible. Otherwise, we will have to rent cars. Automatic cars may come at a higher price. Sidenote: Namibians drive on the left. :)

Where will we stay in Windhoek?
Once we have numbers, we’ll figure it out for sure. Probably Airbnb lodges and guesthouses that allow us to group people up according to what you’re comfortable with.

When is the wedding day?
July 31st (Harry Potter’s birthday)

When we should plan to arrive and leave?
It’s a two-day trip from the U.S. to Namibia. Ideally, if you leave on Tuesday, July 26th, you would arrive on Thursday, most likely. Leaving Tuesday or earlier would allow you a few days to rest before the wedding.

For those staying after the wedding, we would love to travel a bit with you all. A week or so would allow us to comfortably travel together, which would mean leaving around Friday, August 6th.

Where are some places we might travel?
If you can only stay for a few days after the wedding, day trips might include:

If you plan to travel for about a week after the wedding as a group, some options might include:

Dead Trees

Swakopmund and Walvis Bay

Some other cool excursions that are not-so-terribly-far-away (that we might be swing with you) include:

Etosha National Park

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
